The Daily Ubuntu – 3 Oct 2012

The Daily Ubuntu is a collection of Celtics-related news and columns from around the intarwebs, just so that you keep in touch with our favourite green team.

Celtics Europe 2012 pre-season games
The official press release shows the coming two Europe games for our guys in green. According to the Hangtime Blog preseason game schedule, the games look to be showing at an unearthly hour over here in Australia.

Enthusiastic as I am to catch some real action of the new lineup, 0400hrs is still 0400hrs – simply killer.

Sat 06 Oct 2012, 0400hrs AEST: v Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul
Mon 08 Oct 2012, 0300hrs AEST: v EA7 Emporio Armani

Wilcox rediscovering winning feeling with Celtics – CSNNE
Chris Wilcox talks to CSNNE about his journey across different teams, about winning and most importantly, his reason for returning:

“This is family to me,” Wilcox said. “When I was at my lowest point in life, these were the guys that were with me, these were the guys that were calling, checking up on me making sure I was straight, making sure I had the right doctors, things like that. So I knew that there was no question that if they even called me there was no question that I was coming back, you know what I mean? Despite the money and everything, this is a more family-oriented team and this is what I wanted to be around.”

Can’t get any more Ubuntu than that I reckon.

Rondo: This team is more talented than ’08 champs – CSNNE
Statements like these get me paranoid about shit hitting the ceiling fan. Talent and health please. We could be the most talented team in the league and still melt in the playoffs if our starters went down.

Crazy paranoia aside, I like the level of optimism Rondo’s showing.

Celtics hope overseas trip repeats ’08 success – CSNNE

Chemistry test during Euro trip – Boston Herald

Two articles on the same topic, and here I am hoping for the same. It’s not a full training camp the way ’08 was, but I’ll take anything we can get at this point. Bonding time = Ubuntu time = always a good thing.

Celtics see size as small matter – Boston Herald
Another piece on the small ball lineup. Rondo seems to think Jeff Green’s more than up for it:

“He’s the main guy when you talk about the small lineup,” point guard Rajon Rondo [stats] said. “He played the 4 at Oklahoma City, he stretched the floor with his shooting and he beat a lot of bigs down the floor as well. He can go from the 4 to the 3 and even defensively he can check 1-through-4, I believe. We expect a lot of Jeff, but he’s fine with that pressure.”

Expectations, expectations. Hope is just so fragile sometimes, I don’t want to explode with rage if he doesn’t live up to it when season starts.

Follow the leader(s) – ESPN Boston
Rondo plays down the leadership hype, stressing that he’s still looking up to the older guys.

“I’m not the team leader,” Rondo said Monday before the team departed for Turkey. “Everybody keeps saying that, [Celtics president of basketball operations] Danny [Ainge] put that pressure on me [by calling Rondo the team's best player]. There’s 15 guys on this team. Paul [Pierce has] been here for 15 years and I’m still following in his footsteps. I might be a leader as far as point guard wise, and I’ll accept that role. But three or four guys are the leaders — Kevin, Paul, and even [Jason Terry]. They are the veterans. I’m going to lead the young guys, and try to lead the older guys as well. But I’m still following.”

Always good to be humble, brownie points to RR for this. Talk is cheap, there’s no need to spout too much of it. Just keep working, and when the time comes the mantle’ll be handed over.

Pierce: ‘Playing elsewhere really did cross my mind – CSNNE

Heads up to Celtics Town for the link.

Mike Gorman interviews Paul Pierce on the uncertainty he faced after last season’s loss, and whether he had thought about moving off the team if the rebuilding had begun. Pierce confirms he would have gone to another team if the Celtics had gone for a full rebuild.

Gorman says it best. “I can’t ever see you in another uniform. Could you ever close your eyes and ever see yourself in another uniform?”

No way.

He also adds a quip about giving back to Boston – hints at a possible move into the training staff after he retires?

Headless Joseph – Twitter
Sherrod Blakely from CSNNE tweets a picture of Kris Joseph, sans head. That green thing is an XBox apparently, judging from his caption.

This is #Celtics Kris Joseph minus his head. If he loses that Xbox, this look would become a more permanent one.

That’s all for today folks, have fun and I’ll see you soon.
