Marcus Smart would get his 2nd career start vs KG & the Brooklyn Nets in Boston as the Celtics would look to get back on the winners list after 2 straight losses.
After a rough shooting start to the last game the Celtics started this one out hitting their first 2 shots. A 9-0 run by Brooklyn was stopped by Sullinger as he would hit his first basket to cut the Nets lead to 3. Green through down an alley oop which gave him his 5th point of the night, passing what he scored in total the previous game against the Magic (4). A Sullinger 3 put Boston on top by 1. Green hit his 12th point of the quarter to put Celtics up by 4 before Jarret Jack hit a 3 to close the quarter.
The 2nd started with a little back and forth action as a Wright slam put Boston back ahead by 4. Kevin Garnett hit his old reliable jump shot to cut the C’s lead & it sparked a short Nets run that had them now leading by 4. Avery Bradley continued his hot shooting scoring 7 out of the last 10 Boston points to put the men in green in front by 4. The see-saw first half continued as a late 7-4 Brooklyn run had the game tied at 56 at halftime.
The Celtics opened the second half on a 7-2 run to gain a 5 point lead which was now the largest of the night. The trend would continue though as Jack hit a shot to bring the Nets within 1. Boston finally broke the game open with a 13-2 run to go ahead by 12 off of a Zeller layup. The Nets answered as Jack rattled off 6 points in an 8-0 Brooklyn run but that would only be matched by a Boston 8-0 run. Deron Williams hit a shot at the buzzer to cut the Celtics lead to 7 heading into the 4th.
Olynyk put the Celtics back in the lead by 10 as Bass was put into the line-up for his first minutes of the night. Bass scored 4 quick points as Boston pushed the lead to 11 with just a few ticks under 9 minutes left. An 11-2 run sparked by Plumlee and Anderson cut the lead back to 2. Jeff would hit a jumper to get the lead back to 4 but that was short lived as Anderson & Jack hit back to back shots to tie the game up. Sullinger hit a 3 with 2 minutes left to give Boston the lead but Anderson quickly answered before Jack hit a floater to give the Nets their first lead since the 2nd quarter. The Celtics had 2 chances to tie but couldn’t capitalise & had to foul. Jack made his 9th & 10th free throws on the night (The Celtics only shot 11 as a team), to put the Nets up 4 with only 5.4 seconds left. Avery hit a 3 off of Green’s 5th assist of the night to cut the lead to 1 with 1.8 remaining. Wallace was put into the game after Johnson split his free throws as Boston were down 2 & out of timeouts. He made a full court pass to Sullinger who just missed the shot to force overtime. Boston lost this one 109-107.
